Blog Concept: Send me on assignment

The idea: You give me a topic, I write five to eight hundred words on it.

Update: I never did get around to doing it weekly. I’m now making this challenge open ended, you give me an assignment and I’ll research/write it. Usual caveats apply.

This is just a random idea I had, I’m going to trial it for the next two months.

1. At the start of each week I’ll open a thread calling for a new assignment. I hope you will suggest and discuss possible assignments, hopefully one will emerge that people are most interested in setting me to write about.
2. On Friday I will take the assignment with the broadest support, research and write over the weekend, and post the result on the Monday. Followed by a new call for assignments.

I hope that assignments will be:
1. In the form of a question. Tasks, eg, goto church x and write about x, are less interesting, but I’m prepared to do it from time to time.
2. broadly within the precis of this blog. That is, religion, faith, Church and state, atheism, morality, ethics, or current affairs relating to any of these issues.

I reserve the right to reject ideas that cost me unreasonable amounts of money (waived if someone offers to cover the costs). I reserve the right to either reject, or extend the deadline, on ideas that would reasonably take more than two days.

So, it’s the 4th of May and here’s the challenge: Submit an idea for next weekend’s assignment, I’ll take the most popular assignment and write five to eight hundred words to be published by Monday the 12th.

p.s Ideas for a catchy name for this concept welcomed!

Is a website like “Friendly Atheist” http://friendlyatheist.com/ more or less likely to win the uncommitted middle ground than, say, a site that points out inconsistencies in the Bible [link]

Interesting. Friendly Atheist has been engaged in a bit of a back and forth with the chaps at Rational Response Squad over tactics in winning over the faithless faithful.

RRS argue that their “aggressive” tactics are required to “shake up” the faithful in order to make them ripe for a friendly atheist attempt at convincing them.

Tomorrow’s Thursday, last chance to make a suggestion for the topic of the first assignment. At the moment it seems I will be writing on tactics to win over the uncommitted middle ground.
